Computing Courses

Flexible ECDL  Award

ECDL is now available as a flexible qualification, across QCF levels 1 and 2 - enabling you to build ECDL qualifications around your needs. You will gain the skills employers require using Microsoft office, whilst learn at your own pace from a qualified tutor.


Level 1 Units

Word processing Helps the learner use a range of basic word processing software tools and techniques to produce appropriate, straightforward or routine documents.
Spreadsheet software Enables learners to use a range of basic spreadsheet software tools and techniques to produce spreadsheets.
Presentation software Provides the skills to use a range of basic presentation software tools. Learners will be able to create text based or diagram based slide shows and lecture notes.
Database software Introduces learners to basic database software tools, enabling them to enter information, set up single tables and retrieve information by running database queries.


Level 2 Units (as level 1 with this addition)

Improving productivity using IT Enables the learner to work more effectively with IT. This unit looks at using tools to save time and effort when producing word processed documents, presentations and spreadsheets.
Tuition: Wednesday evening 18:00-20:00

Cost: £150 per term, level 1 takes around 2 terms and Level 2 takes around 3 terms.


Everyday Computing

The course is designed to introduce the basic elements of using a computer to anyone with limited or no knowledge. The course is built around your needs and the emphasis is on practical life skills and how a computer can be used to enhance your day-to-day life.

What can I expect to learn?
• You will learn how to use the mouse and keyboard.
• You will be introduced to the computer desktop and windows
• Learn how to produce a basic word processed letter or document.
• You will learn the importance of saving a files and how to find them later.
• Printing is covered on the courses to ensure you print what you want and don't waste paper.

These courses are FREE and are run in local libraries, they start at the beginning of each month, and run the whole month


Internet & Email - free 5 week course

Learn About
• Accessing the internet and using bookmarks
• Using your email account - create an Outlook account
• Searching activities, train and bus timetables
• Online services - Middlesbrough Council
• Comparison websites
